KNOW YOUR RIGHTS

Everyone has the right to life except in the case of a court of law sentencing the person to death for a capital offence such as murder or treason.

Every person is entitled to personal liberty and should not:

• Be subject to arbitrary arrest, detention or exile
• Be subject to arbitrary interference with his/her privacy, family home or correspondence
• Be subject to attacks upon his/her honour or reputation
• But your liberty may be taken away under certain conditions
o When a court rules that you be held in custody
o When you are suspected of having committed or wanting to commit a criminal offence

YOUR RIGHTS WHEN ARRESTED

• You must be informed why you been arrested
• You have the right to remain silent and refuse to make statement until you have access to your lawyer, or any person of your choice
